How I came across some bullion
It was six in the afternoon when I came in. The room was dark and gloomy despite the shining sun outside. At first I thought nobody had lived there for years. There were cobwebs in the corners, the curtains were drawn, and the layers of dust did not indicate human presence. However, I later saw some freshly washed and ironed clothes and a pair of shoes. I thought it must be a bit untidy person. The furniture was old-fashioned, a bit damaged. One of the drawers was open. I saw something glittering inside. I came nearer and realised that was gold bullion. I could hardly believe the person had forgotten to hide it. There were perhaps five or six large bars. I took one in my hand. It looked impressive and it was much heavier than I had thought. It was the first time in my life I had seen such incredible amounts of gold. I was just a kid, anyway, so I did not know or could not tell if it was really genuine. It put the bullion bar back into the drawer. I looked around. It definitely seemed to be a temporary dwelling place. Perhaps the person was hiding from somebody? But why had they left the door open? For a second or two, some terrible thoughts crossed my mind, but I put them off immediately. I left the room just as it was, and closed the door behind me.
